Ingredients

  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 1/2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp dried minced onion
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 6 hamburger buns halved

Instructions

  • To a large skillet set over medium heat add the beef, water, mustard, sugar, and dried onion. Allow the mixture to simmer, stirring and crumbling the beef as it cooks, until the beef is completely cooked throughout.
  • Season the ground beef with salt & pepper, to taste.
  • Pile the meat onto soft hamburger buns, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can serve these plain like the original Maid-Rite sandwich or top with your favorite burger fixings. We like American cheese, ketchup, mayo, and sliced pickles.
  • Make a double batch and freeze half! It doesn't take any extra time and then you'll have another night of dinner ready to go!
  • You can also make these in a crockpot. Just brown ground beef in a skillet. Don't drain off fat, and add to bowl of crockpot with remaining ingredients. Stir to combine. Cover and cook on low heat for 2 hours.
  • For an extra bit of flavor, add a splash of worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, or steak sauce to the ground beef and water mixture when simmering.
