Classic Deli Style Sub Sandwiches

- 1 loaf Italian bread halved, lengthwise
- oil & vinegar to taste
- lettuce
- thinly sliced tomatoes
- 1 lb thinly sliced deli ham
- 1 lb thinly sliced beef bologna
- 1/2 lb sliced American cheese yellow or white
- 1/3 cup sliced banana pepper rings
- 1/3 cup thinly sliced dill pickles
- 1/2 large sweet onion very thinly sliced
- salt & pepper to taste
Season the inside of both halves of the loaf of bread with oil & vinegar, to taste.
Top the bottom half with a thin layer of crisp iceberg lettuce, followed by a layer of thinly sliced tomatoes.
Top with a layer of sliced bologna, followed by a layer of sliced ham, and finish with a layer of sliced American cheese.
Add the sliced banana pepper rings, thinly sliced onion, and pickles. Season with salt & pepper, to taste.
Top the sub sandwich with the other half of bread, slice into sandwiches, and serve.
- If you want less bread and more room for toppings, you can hollow out the middle of the top and bottom of the Italian loaf.
- You can switch up the meats and add or substitute salami, roast beef, turkey, or whatever you like.
- Sometimes you'll see deli subs with mayo in addition to oil and vinegar and you can absolutely do that if you like.
