Ingredients

  • 5 ripened sweet pears seeded & quartered
  • 1 navel orange quartered
  • 5 pieces whole cardamom
  • 2 large cinnamon sticks
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar optional

Instructions

  • Make sure the liner is in your Instant Pot, then add the seeded and quartered pears and orange to the bowl. Add the seasonings to the pot, then pour the water overtop.
5 ripened sweet pears, 1 navel orange, 5 pieces whole cardamom, 2 large cinnamon sticks, 6 cups water
  • Add the lid, turning to close, and set the vent valve to the sealed position. Cook on HIGH pressure for 10 minutes. When done, let the pressure naturally release.
  • Turn the vent valve, careful to avoid any remaining hot steam, and open the pot. Set a thin mesh strainer over a large pitcher, or bowl, and pour the mixture through it to separate the liquids from the solids.
  • Using a wooden spoon, hold the strainer over the liquid and press the fruit into the sides to extract all the remaining liquid. Discard the pulp, and repeat as needed until all the fruit's been pressed.
  • Stir in the sugar, you can add more if you feel it needs it, and serve warm.
    1 tbsp brown sugar

Notes

  • There is no need to peel the pears for this recipe. Just make sure to wash them first!
  • Use a sweet variety of fruit, like Bartlett pears, for this recipe.
  • Overripe pears are perfect for pear cider! They enhance the sweetness.
  • You can add more sugar, if needed, to sweeten to your tastes.
  • Avoiding refined sugar? You can use maple syrup, or even molasses, as an alternative sweetener to the brown sugar.
  • You can serve as is or garnish it with cinnamon sticks and thinly sliced pears for a fancier, more festive vibe.
