Have you ever had beef bulgogi?
It is so good in that sweet, salty, tangy sauce.
Full disclosure: my easy beef bulgogi recipe is not authentic but an Americanized version.
That said, it sure does taste good though!
What is beef bulgogi?
You might hear this dish called Korean barbecue beef.
It’s thin, marinated pieces of sirloin or ribeye stir fried and often served over a bed of rice.
The meat is tender and full of flavor!
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Ribeye steak– Thinly sliced. You could substitute thinly sliced sirloin if you prefer.
- Onion– A medium white onion peeled and thinly sliced
- Marinade ingredients– Soy sauce, brown sugar, granulated sugar, mirin, pressed garlic cloves, sesame oil, and pepper
- Canola oil– To stir fry the beef in
- Garnish– Thinly sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds
How to Make
This beef bulgogi recipe is so easy to make!
Just whisk the soy sauce, sugars, mirin, garlic, sesame oil, and pepper together in a large mixing bowl until evenly combined.
Stir the steak and sliced onion into the marinade.
Cover the bowl with a dish towel, and let it rest for 30 minutes while the meat marinates.
When you’re ready to cook the meat, heat the canola oil in a large cast iron skillet set over medium high heat.
Once the oil’s hot, add the marinated meat and onions to the skillet.
Cook the meat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your preferred done-ness.
Serve warm with steamed white rice, garnished with the green onions and sesame seeds.
Enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
If you have made rice to serve with this, make sure to store the rice separately.
What do you serve with beef bulgogi?
You serve steamed rice and kimchi with beef bulgogi traditionally.
