I am all about making the most of boxed foods.

Does a box of macaroni and cheese just have to be either a main dish to serve to little kids or a side for the adults?

Absolutely not!

Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Boxed Mac and Cheese– I recommend using queso blanco Velveeta Shells and Cheese but you can really use any variety of boxed mac and cheese that you like.
  • Shaved beef– A pound of it.
  • Veggies– A diced onion and seeded and diced green pepper
  • Seasoning– Montreal steak seasoning and garlic powder
  • Cheese– Shredded mozzarella

How to Make

This Philly cheesesteak mac and cheese is so easy to make!

To make this, prepare the mac and cheese according to directions on the package.

While the pasta’s cooking, you can prepare the toppings.

To do this, melt the butter in a large skillet set over medium hot.

Once the butter’s melted add the beef, pepper, onions, and seasonings to the skillet.

Cook, stirring often, until the pepper and onion have softened and the beef is cooked through.

Stir the mozzarella cheese into the hot mac and cheese until melted.

Once the extra cheese has melted, stir in the beef mixture.

Spread the mixture out in a greased 2 quart casserole dish.

Sprinkle the rest of the cheese evenly out overtop.

Bake at 350° for 15-20 minutes until the dish is bubbly and the cheese has melted.

Broil, if desired, to brown the top.

Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • You can also add extra veggies into this by sauteeing some sliced white mushrooms with the beef, peppers, and onions.
  • No mozzarella? That’s fine. You could use shredded provolone cheese or even shredded cheddar if that’s what you have.
  • If you do broil the mac and cheese, it will only need 30 seconds to a minute so make sure you watch it very closely.
