Raspberry iced tea is a sweet, tart way to cool down on a hot day. This homemade drink is the perfect thing to sip on the porch or patio all summer long.
For us, summer means we are outside as much we can be.
As soon as everyone is up and dressed, we are out the door, hanging out in the yard.
Friends and neighbors and neighborhood kids stop by.
And I always want to have a little something to offer anyone that comes by so I often have a pitcher of my homemade raspberry iced tea in my fridge.
Sweet and tart, it’s the perfect thing to sip on during the hot summer months.
And my homemade version is easy to make and a million times better than any of the store bought raspberry teas available.
Ingredients
To make this, you’ll need:
- Water– Both to make the tea itself and the raspberry syrup.
- Raspberries– Fresh are best but you could use frozen too.
- Sugar– Just a little bit plus more to taste as needed.
- Baking soda– Optional to cut any bitterness without adding tons of sugar.
- Tea bags– Your favorite black tea.
How to Make
To make raspberry iced tea, you’ll start by making the raspberry syrup.
To do it, add 2 cups of water, the raspberries, and the sugar to a small saucepan over high heat.
Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce to a simmer until the liquid has reduced by half.
Once the liquid has reduced, pour the syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or a measuring cup to discard the raspberries.
Then, boil 4 cups of water.
Once it boils, remove it from the heat and add the tea bags.
Let the tea bags steep in the hot water for 4 to 5 minutes.
Then, remove the tea bags and chill the tea until it’s cool.
Taste the tea and add baking soda if it is bitter or more water if it is too strong.
Pour the raspberry syrup into the iced tea and stir.
Serve in tall glass with ice.
Enjoy!
