Pizza Crunch Recipe

Pizza crunch is a beer battered, fried pizza that transforms a humble frozen pie into a crispy, melty treat. It’s an easy way to switch up pizza night when everyone’s bored of the usual slice.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup cornflour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 - 1 ½ cups light beer
  • 1 frozen cheese pizza cut into quarters
  • Oil for frying
  • Flaky salt optional

Instructions

  • Heat 2” of oil in a large pot to 350 F

  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, cornflour, baking soda and salt.

  • Whisk in 1 cup of beer, then gradually add more until the batter reaches a consistency like pancake batter.

  • Dip both sides of the pizza into the batter, then immediately place the cheese side down into the hot oil.

  • Cook for 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook an additional 2-3 minutes. Carefully remove and set onto a rack to drain and cool. Sprinkle with flaky salt if using.

  • Repeat with the remaining pizza pieces, then serve hot with french fries.

Notes

  • Make sure you use light beer instead of regular beer or lager. Light beer creates a lighter, crispier breading.
  • Don't overcrowd the oil. I recommend only frying one to two pieces at a time depending on the size of your pot.
  • Use your favorite frozen pizza brand.
