Fall fruit salad is a fresh way to enjoy the flavors of the season. Loaded with crunch, this light side dish is sure to please any time!
When I think fall food, I often think of baked goods and comfort foods.
You know, all the heavy stuff.
But there are some really delicious lighter, fresh ways to enjoy the bounties of the season.
This fall fruit salad for example is one.
Loaded with pears and apples, it’s crunchy and bright but still wonderfully festive.
Ingredients
There are two simple sets of ingredients for this- ingredients for the salad itself and ingredients for the syrup.
For the fruit salad, you’ll need:
- Pears– Core and slice them.
- Apples– Use a tart, crisp apple like granny smiths to balance the sweet syrup. Core and slice these as well.
- Pecans– You could substitute another nut like walnuts if you prefer.
- Dried cranberries– You could also substitute dried cherries or raisins too.
For the syrup you need:
- Maple syrup – Use real maple syrup not pancake syrup.
- Lemon juice– Fresh lemon juice if possible.
- Ground cinnamon– Just a pinch.
How to Make
It’s very easy to make this fall fruit salad!
To do it add the ingredients for the fruit salad itself to a large mixing bowl.
Give it a stir to combine it.
When you have made the salad, put together the syrup by whisking together the maple syrup, lemon juice, and cinnamon in a small bowl.
Once combined, pour the syrup over the salad and toss everything to combine.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
Do I need to peel the fruit?
You don’t necessarily need to peel the fruit.
In fact, I often don’t peel the fruit so it’s super easy to put this together.
Can I make this ahead of time?
You can make it 2 to 3 hours before you serve it if you store it in the fridge.
If doing it this way, I recommend omitting the nuts, and stirring them in just before serving so they don’t soften or turn soggy.
I don’t recommend making it more ahead of time than that.
Tips and Tricks
- Cut the fruit into equal sized pieces.
- Use whatever pears you like.
- Don’t omit the lemon juice. It keeps the fruit from browning.
