Slow cooker beef and broccoli comes together in less time than it would take you to order takeout! With all the delicious flavors of the classic, you’ll love making this at home version anytime you find yourself in the mood for Chinese.
We love ordering Chinese takeout.
But for a family that has 5 hungry boys and a mom with an equally hearty appetite, it gets really expensive really fast.
No thanks.
So instead, I make my own takeout at home.
It’s less expensive, better for you, and I always find a way to may the prep as quick and painless as possible.
Like for this slow cooker beef and broccoli.
There’s only a few minutes of active prep, barely any dishes used, and the result is a dish that is just as yummy as what we’d get from our local takeout place.
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Steak– Sliced into thin strips. Depending, you may even be able to get your butcher to do this for you when you buy it.
- Beef broth– Or stock. You can use low sodium to better control the salt content.
- Soy sauce
- Brown sugar– A packed third of a cup.
- Sesame oil– A little adds a ton of flavor!
- Garlic– Minced
- Sriracha– Optional. You can adjust the amount to suit your heat level.
- Broccoli– Fresh or frozen florets.
- Cornstarch– To make a slurry that will thicken the sauce before serving.
How to Make
This is so easy to throw together!
Just add the steak strips to the bowl of your slow cooker.
Then whisk the broth, soy sauce, oil, sugar, garlic, and sriracha together in a mixing bowl until evenly combined.
Pour the sauce over the steak, and stir to combine.
Cover and cook on LOW for 4 hours.
After 4 hours, whisk the cornstarch together with 4 tablespoons of juice from the slow cooker in a small bowl until the combination is smooth.
Pour the slurry into the slow cooker, add the broccoli, and stir to combine.
Turn the heat to HIGH, cover, and cook another 30 minutes.
Serve warm over a bed of steamed white rice, and enjoy!
What’s the Best Steak to Use for Beef and Broccoli?
Top sirloin or ribeye.
Both are relatively inexpensive and will yield tender and juicy results, especially when slow cooked in sauce.
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Make sure to keep the beef and broccoli separate from any leftover rice.
Tips and Tricks
- Adjust the spice level by adding more or less Sriracha and garlic to the mix.
- You could add a little grated ginger to this too for extra flavor.
- For extra fanciness when you serve it, you could garnish it with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
