I just love treats that kids can help make.

When mine were younger, I’d try to get them in the kitchen however I could.

And no bake sweets were always a sure fire way to have them enthusiastically help.

These adorable acorn kisses will get your kids in the kitchen too whether you are trying to teach them cooking skills or just looking for a fun activity.

Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Chocolate kisses– We use the kind with almonds but you could use plain chocolate if you prefer.
  • Nilla wafers– The mini kind
  • Peanut butter chips– For the stems and to “glue” everything together. If you are allergic to peanut butter you could sub chocolate chips instead.

How to Make Acorn Cookies

This food craft is so easy to make!

To start, unwrap your kisses and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Refrigerate the kisses while you melt the half cup of peanut butter chips.

Microwave the peanut butter chips in a small, microwave-safe bowl for 2 minutes or until they are creamy when stirred, pausing and stirring every 30 seconds.

Dollop a small amount of melted peanut butter chip on the flat portion of your mini nilla wafers and press it gently against the flat part of the kisses so that it forms the shape of acorn.

Tips and Tricks

  • It is a lot easier, quicker, and less messy to put the melted peanut butter chips in a frosting bag or baggie and cut just the tiny tip off and apply it that way.
  • Do not use the regular sized Nilla wafers as they are far too large. The mini ones are generally right next to the regular sized ones.
  • You can use melted peanut butter in place of the melted peanut butter chips, but it won’t harden as much and is a little messier because of this.
  • Make sure not to rush when you are melting the chips and do not skip stirring them every 30 seconds. If you burn the chips, they will seize and be unusable.
