I love TikTok.

It keeps me feeling as a young as my whippersnappers.

Ok, maybe not.

But it does teach me about all sorts of food that I would not know about otherwise.

And I can’t imagine not knowing about banana milk now that I’ve had it once, or actually one hundred, times.

What is banana milk?

Banana milk rose to popularity in South Korea thanks to the South Korean government urging its citizens to drink more milk.

It has caught on here and in other parts of the world thanks to TikTok.

All it is?

A blend of ripe bananas, milk, sweetener, and vanilla.

Super yummy and a filling combination of protein from the milk and carbs from the bananas, making this banana shake a quick grab and go situation you can make for breakfast.

Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Bananas– You want them to be very ripe. Think almost banana bread bananas. Green or bright yellow bananas won’t give you the banana flavor that makes this so amazing.
  • Milk– Whole, but you could use a lower fat milk. Be aware that it may not be as creamy.
  • Water– To thin it a bit otherwise it would be the consistency of an extra thick milkshake.
  • Maple syrup– You could use a different sweetener but you’ll loose the distinct flavor maple syrup adds to this.
  • Vanilla extract– Real is best.

How to Make

Banana milk is so easy to make!

Storing

You can store any leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 2 days, however this tastes best if you use it immediately.

Do not freeze this.

Tips and Tricks

  • Looking for maple syrup substitutions? Try honey or even agave.
  • Want this smoother? Pour it over a cheese cloth to strain away any of the banana that doesn’t get fully incorporated. It does get smooth in the blender, but it’s all about making it to suit your preferences.
  • You definitely want to skip yellow and green bananas. Choose bananas with brown spotting for maximum banana flavor.
