Big Mac hot dogs dress up a hot dog with the flavors of the classic McDonald’s sandwich. These hot dogs feature sesame seeds, a buttery bun, special sauce, shredded lettuce, minced onions and special sauce. Why choose between favorite sandwiches when you can have both in one?
Two things my kids love: hot dogs and McDonalds.
Why not indulge both loves in one sandwich?
That’s right.
We’re talking Big Mac hot dogs.
A mash up of two of their favorite foods in one amazing sandwich combination.
This sandwich will make you mom of the year in their eyes guaranteed!
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Hot dogs– Beef bun length hot dogs
- Hot dog buns
- Butter– Melted
- Sesame seeds
- Cheese– American cheese slices
- Lettuce– Shredded iceberg
- Pickles– Sliced dill pickles
- Rehydrated onions– Dried minced onions steeped in hot water until rehydrated
- Big Mac Sauce– You can substitute thousand island if needed
How to Make
Big Mac hot dogs are so easy to make!
To do it cook the hot dogs according to your preferred method.
While the hot dogs are cooking, spread the buns out on a baking sheet and broil them just until they are warm and lightly toasted.
Remove the buns from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter.
Sprinkle the sesame seeds evenly out overtop of the buttered buns.
Then add two slices of cheese to the inside of each bun and broil again, just until the cheese has melted slightly.
Put a cooked hot dog into each bun followed by three slices of pickle into each bun.
Finish each Big Mac hot dog off by topping with shredded lettuce and a sprinkle of drained rehydrated minced onions.
Serve with fast food style fries and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
I don’t recommend making more of these than you think you will eat.
The assembled Big Mac hot dogs will get soggy if you refrigerate them when they are assembled.
Tips and Tricks
- Use top sliced buns, if possible, as they will better hold in all of the filling and toppings.
- I spooned the Big Mac sauce over top, but for a neater presentation use a condiment squeeze bottle
- Recipe can easily be halved, or even doubled, to fit the needs of the crowd you’re serving
