When I don’t know what to make for dinner, sloppy joes are almost always the way to go.

What’s easier than browning up a pan full of ground beef and serving it up on a bun?

Not much!

And these Big Mac sloppy joes get extra points with my crew because they taste just like their McDonald’s favorite with its toppings and special sauce.

So you know that gets everyone to the table and saying, “Thanks Mom.”

And that’s music to my ears!

Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Ground beef– Go for lean ground beef. I recommend at least 85/15 or leaner so your meat doesn’t cook down too much and doesn’t get to greasy.
  • Yellow onion– Peeled and diced
  • Thousand Island dressing– Some to get mixed directly into the meat and some for serving.
  • Salt and pepper– To taste
  • Cornstarch– To thicken the mixture
  • Beef broth– To make it saucier
  • Sandwich fixings– American cheese, hamburger buns, shredded lettuce, and dill pickles

How to Make

Big Mac sloppy joes are truly a life save on busy days because they are just that easy!

Start by cooking and crumbling the ground beef with the onion in a large skillet over medium high heat until the meat is cooked through and brown.

When the meat is cooked, strain off any extra grease.

Then stir the dressing, salt and pepper in to the meat mixture.

In a small bowl, whisk the cornstarch and beef broth together to make a slurry.

Pour the slurry into the pan with the browned meat.

Stir everything together and let it cook until the liquid thickens up.

Then build the sandwiches by adding a slice of cheese to the bottom buns and scooping the meat mixture over top.

Add another bottom bun on top followed by another slice of cheese.

Top each with shredded lettuce, pickles, and more dressing.

Finish the Big Mac sloppy joes by adding a top bun.

Serve and enjoy!

Storing Leftovers

The assembled sandwiches don’t save particularly well because they will get soggy.

You can save the browned meat in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Reheat in the microwave until warmed prior to serving again.

Tips and Tricks

  • You can make this with ground chicken or turkey if you prefer. Just be aware if you substitute the ground beef for a different meat, it will not taste quite as Big Mac like.
  • Add other toppings if you want like tomatoes and chopped raw onions.
  • If you aren’t a fan of onions you can skip them.
