There is no occasion that a good cheese ball isn’t perfect for.

I love making them whenever I know I have people coming over, partially because they are so easy and I almost always have the ingredients on hand.

Plus, you can make so many different varieties from savory cheese balls, perfect for appetizers, to dessert cheese balls for any holiday or occasion imaginable.

This particular variety is a sweet cheese ball with yellow cake batter and tons of sprinkles.

It’s a fun twist on dessert for birthdays or customize it for different occasions by changing the sprinkles to fit the theme.

Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Cream cheese– Real, full fat cream cheese softened to room temperature.
  • Butter– Salted butter softened to room temperature.
  • Cake mix– This calls for yellow mix, but you could use almost any flavor cake mix.
  • Vanilla extract– The real deal, not imitation.
  • Powdered sugar– Not granulated. Granulated will make the cheese ball gritty.
  • Sprinkles – The color of these can be changed to fit any variety of occasion.

How to Make

This cake batter cheese ball is so easy to make!

To do it, use a hand mixer to whip the cream cheese until it’s smooth and creamy in a medium sized mixing bowl.

Once the cream cheese is smooth and creamy, whip in the butter, again until smooth and creamy.

Then beat in the cake mix, extract, and sugar until the batter’s smooth.

Fold in 1/2 cup of the sprinkles using a spatula.

Shape the cake batter into a rough ball shape and put it on a large piece of plastic wrap.

Wrap the plastic wrap around the ball to seal, then shape the batter into a better ball shape.

Refrigerate the cake batter cheese ball for at least an hour, but up to overnight.

After you’ve refrigerated the cheese ball, spread the remaining sprinkles out in an even layer on a large plate.

Remove the chilled cheese ball from the fridge, unwrap it, and roll it in the sprinkles.

Press the sprinkles in as needed to cover any bare spots.

Chill the finished cheese ball for 30 minutes, then serve with the dipping options of your choice.

Enjoy!
