Ingredients Needed
I love a short ingredient list, and this one is just that.
To make this sausage ball recipe you’ll need:
- Stove Top Stuffing Mix – A 6 ounce box of stuffing mix in your favorite flavor.
- Water
- Ground Sausage – Make sure you’re using seasoned ground sausage, it tends to come in 1 pound logs, and not just plain ground pork.
- Cheese – Shredded sharp cheddar cheese, you can use pre shredded or fresh- both will work in this recipe.
That’s it.
Now gather your ingredients and get started!
How To Make
Making this sausage ball recipe is as simple as it’s ingredient list.
Get started by bringing a cup of water to boil in a pot on the stove set over high heat.
When the water reaches a boil, remove the pot from the heat and stir in the stuffing mix.
Set the pot aside and allow the stuffing mixture to cool completely.
Once cooled, transfer the moistened stuffing to a large mixing bowl.
You could use a smaller mixing bowl, but I prefer using an oversized one so I have more room to work with when incorporating the rest of the ingredients.
Add the shredded cheese and ground sausage to the mixing bowl with the stuffing.
Use a sturdy wooden spoon, or two clean hands (my preferred method), and stir the mixture together until all three ingredients are completely, evenly combined.
Cover a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll the sausage mixture between two hands to form balls, roughly 1 to 1 1/2 inches around. Place these rolled sausage balls onto the parchment covered baking sheet, about an inch apart.
Repeat until all the sausage mixture’s been used. Depending on the size of your baking sheet, you may need to use two pans.
Place your baking sheet in the refrigerator, and chill the sausage stuffing balls for one hour.
Remove them from the fridge and bake at 350F for 25-30 minutes, or until crispy on the outside and cooked through inside.
Serve the sausage balls warm.
Storing
Leftover baked sausage stuffing balls can be stored (once cooled completely) in a ziplocking bag in the refrigerator for 4-5 days.
They can also be frozen for up to 6 months.
Reheat in the microwave for refrigerated sausage balls, and in the oven at 350F for frozen ones until heated through.
