Air fryer fish sticks are a quick and easy way to make the classic breaded dish. Crispy and delicious, you won’t believe they aren’t deep fried!
Fish sticks are one of those foods that I like to pull out of my back pocket any time I need an easy meal.
But I don’t love deep frying them and soaking them in all that unnecessary oil.
Nobody likes greasy fish sticks. That’s just sad, and not a recipe for a dinner my kids will happily eat.
So instead I just pop them in my air fryer for a healthier version of the fried dish that is just as delicious, crispy, and quick.
Ingredients
To make this you need:
- Fish– Cod, or other white fish, cut into strips.
- Breading Ingredients– Flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper
- Wet Ingredients– Eggs and mayo get beaten together.
- Bread crumbs– I prefer Panko for the best texture but any kind will work.
- Italian seasoning– To mix into the bread crumbs.
- Garnish– Lemon wedges and parsley.
How to Make
To make these fish sticks in the air fryer, you’ll need three bowls.
In the first mix together flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Whisk together the egg and mayo in the second bowl.
In the third bowl, stir together panko and italian seasoning
Coat the fish, by dipping one piece of fish at time in each bowl.
Start with flour mixture, followed by egg mixture, and finish with the panko mixture.
Repeat the dipping process until all pieces are breaded
Then, preheat the air fryer to 400F, and cook the fish stick for 8 minutes, flipping once halfway through
Serve warm with lemon wedges, fresh parsley, and tartar sauce if desired.
Can I freeze homemade fish sticks?
Yes!
To do it, bread them and place them uncooked on a baking tray you’ve lined with plastic wrap.
Freeze them on the tray for 2 hours.
After 2 hours, remove them from the tray and put the frozen fish sticks into a freezer bag.
They should last for 3 months.
To cook them, air fry them at 400 for about 12 minutes or until they are warmed through and crisp.
Storing Leftovers
Store leftover air fryer fish sticks that you have cooked in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Reheat them in the air fryer until warmed through.
Do I Have To Use Cod?
Nope!
Although it’s what I typically use, you could absolutely sub another white fish.
We’ve also made these using haddock, pollack, and even catfish.
Tips and Tricks
- Make sure that they aren’t touching when you place the fish sticks in the basket of your air fryer.
- Adjust the seasoning to suit your tastes.
- Cut the fish into equal sized pieces so they cook evenly.
