Crockpot pulled pork is a quick, easy way to make this delicious main. Just set it and forget it and you’ll be enjoying tender shredded pork that’s perfect in sandwiches, on baked potatoes, or even in nachos and cheese fries.
The crockpot is my bff.
For real though, this magical kitchen appliance creates the easiest most delicious meals with virtually no work.
Take this pulled pork for example.
All you have to do is season the pork, put it in the slow cooker, and let it cook low and slow while you go about your day.
Then when you are ready, so is dinner!
Doesn’t get much easier.
Ingredients
To make this, you’ll need:
- Pork– A boneless pork shoulder.
- Spices– Salt, brown sugar, garlic powder, oregano, paprika, and black pepper
- Broth– Chicken broth to cook it in
- Barbecue sauce– Your favorite kind
How to Make
To start, just combine the seasonings together in a small bowl.
Then rub the mix all over the pork shoulder.
Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of your slow cooker and put the seasoned meat on top.
Then, just pop the lid on the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 8 hours or until the meat is easy to shred.
When you are ready to serve it, shred the meat and top with barbecue sauce if desired.
Enjoy!
What is the best cut for crock pot pulled pork?
I am using a pork shoulder.
It creates a really tender, fall apart meat.
What is the best liquid to use to cook pulled pork in the slow cooker?
I recommend broth.
This recipe in particular calls for chicken broth but you could use beef or vegetable if that’s all you have on hand.
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
You could also freeze leftover pulled pork.
To do that, just let it cool and put the shredded pork into sealable freezer bags.
Freeze the sealed bags for up to 3 months, thawing overnight in the fridge before reheating.
Serving Suggestions
I love to keep it simple and serve this on buns with pickles and even coleslaw for a sandwich.
We also love to spoon pulled pork over:
- baked potatoes
- french fries
- nachos
- salads
- rice
Tips and Tricks
- Don’t use water as the cooking liquid. I love to use broth since it adds more flavor, while water does not.
- If after 8 hours, the pork isn’t tender let it cook longer. It should basically be falling apart.
- Want to short cut the spices? Use a premade barbecue spice rub if you’d rather.
