How to Make
This old fashioned cabbage casserole is super easy to make!
To do it, start by rough chopping the cabbage.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium low heat.
Add the chopped cabbage and onion and cook, stirring often, until the cabbage partially cooks down or about 8 to 10 minutes.
Season the veggies with salt and pepper to taste.
Scoop the cabbage into a 9×13″ baking dish in an even layer.
Set the casserole dish aside while you whisk the soup and mayo together in a small mixing bowl.
Spread this over the cabbage.
Then mix the melted butter, shredded cheese, and crushed crackers together in a small mixing bowl until everything is coated in butter.
Spread the cracker topping over the casserole.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until it’s golden brown and bubbly.
Serve warm and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers tightly covered in the casserole dish in the fridge for up to 4 days.
While you can reheat individual servings in the microwave, I recommend reheating this in the oven for the best texture.
Tips and Tricks
- Use less salt than you think you need. The chicken soup has a lot of sodium in it.
- You could add some French fried onions to the topping for extra flavor and crunch.
- Adding garlic to the cabbage and onion mixture would also add an extra layer of flavor.
