This quick and easy hot dog chili is the best topping for chili dogs ever! Our hearty beef chili only needs 6 ingredients and comes together in under 30 minutes.
Our boys eat a ton of hot dogs.
You’d think now that they are older, their palettes would have expanded.
But no, hot dogs are a staple around here.
And there is nothing they like more than a good chili dog.
Sure you can open up a can of chili if you like, but when you see how quick and easy it is to make hot dog chili you never will again!
Especially since it tastes so much better than anything you could buy premade and comes together in under half an hour.
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Ground beef– I recommend using leaner ground beef so the chili isn’t too greasy.
- Tomato soup– Two cans of condensed tomato soup.
- Hamburger water– Just reserve some of the water you boil the beef in.
- Ketchup
- Mustard– Yellow mustard
- Chili seasoning– 2 packets of your favorite brand of chili seasoning. I recommend McCormick.
Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, you’re ready to get started.
How to Make
Making hot dog chili is so easy!
To do it, add the beef to a medium sized pot.
Fill the pot with water until it covers the beef.
Bring the pot to a boil, and let it boil until the meat is cooked through, stirring occasionally.
Reserve 1 cup of the hamburger water and drain off the rest.
Stir in the condensed soup, reserved water, ketchup, mustard, and seasoning.
Let it simmer over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes until it has thickened.
Serve warm over hot dogs.
Enjoy!
What is the difference between hot dog chili and regular chili?
Hot dog chili has a less chunky consistency than regular chili like this Easy No Bean Chili Recipe.
Plus because hot dog chili has a healthy dose of ketchup in it, it tends to be sweeter than regular chili which has more spice.
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Reheat in the microwave prior to enjoying again.
Tips and Tricks
- Yes, you have to boil the ground beef in water to cook it. This particular cooking method is what gets the beef to break up into a very fine consistency as it cooks.
- You can easily double the recipe if serving a crowd. We like to serve it at barbecues and parties and keep it warm in a small crockpot.
- Once the chili thickens up, give it a taste and add any more seasoning as needed.
