Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies

Red velvet crinkle cookies turn a couple boxes of cake mix into a delicious cookie perfect for any occasion! These easy cookies need only a few ingredients and have a super short prep so you can make them even when you’re short on time.

It’s officially cookie baking season.

To add variety to my cookies, I like to look for easy recipes that give you maximum deliciousness.

These red velvet crinkle cookies are just that.

This cake mix cookie recipe needs only a handful of ingredients, won’t have you dirtying up a bunch of measuring tools, and are ready in under an hour.

Plus the cookies themselves are so yummy!

Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Cake mix– 1 box of white cake mix and 1 box of chocolate cake mix
  • Butter– Unsalted butter, melted
  • Eggs
  • Food coloring– Red food coloring for the signature color
  • Topping– Powdered sugar and sprinkles

How to Make

To make these, stir together both of the cake mixes in a large bowl.

Then mix in the melted butter, eggs, and red food dye until the dough is smooth and vibrantly red.

Coved the dough and refrigerate it for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, take the cookie dough out of the fridge and use a cookie scoop to scoop the dough into 1 inch balls.

Roll the cookie dough balls through a plate of powdered sugar.

Put the sugar coated cookie dough balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them 2 inches apart.

Bake the cookies in a 350 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until the cookies have slightly puffed and crackled.

Let them cool for 5 minutes on the cookie sheets before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

If you are decorating them with sprinkles, press them into the cookies while the cookies are still warm.

Serve and enjoy!

Storing

Store the cooled cookies in an airtight container on the counter for up to a week.

Tips and Tricks

  • You might have to add more food coloring to achieve the rich red color. 
  • Any brand of cake mix will work.
  • Make sure not to skip the cooling time on the cookies before you transfer them to a wire rack. The cool time helps the cookies set.

Ingredients

For The Cookies

  • 1 white cake box mix
  • 1 chocolate cake box mix
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 4 eggs
  • Red Food Dye

For The Topping

  • Powdered Sugar
  • Heart Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9x13 baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together the white cake mix and chocolate cake mix until well blended.

  • Add melted butter, eggs, and red food dye to the dry ingredients. Mix until the dough is smooth and a vibrant red color is achieved. Adjust the food dye as needed.

  • Cover the dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes to make it easier to handle.
  • Place powdered sugar in a shallow dish for rolling.

  • Scoop dough into 1-inch balls and roll each ball generously in powdered sugar.
  • Place coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until cookies are slightly puffed and crackled.
  • Allow cookies to cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack. Optionally, press heart sprinkles onto the tops while the cookies are still warm.

  • Serve once completely cooled. Store in an airtight container.
