How to Make

Making slow cooker chocolate lava cake is very easy!

Mix the cake mix, milk, oil, and eggs using an electric hand mixer until the mixture’s smooth, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.

Pour the batter into the bowl of a 6 quart slow cooker you’ve sprayed with nonstick spray, spreading it out in an even layer.

In another mixing bowl whisk together the pudding mix and the COLD milk until the pudding is smooth and thick.

Pour the pudding mixture into the slow cooker overtop of the cake mix.

Do NOT mix them.

Spread a clean dish towel over the bowl of the slow cooker.

Put the lid on the slow cooker to cover it and keep the towel in place.

Cook on LOW for 3 – 3 1/2 hours, until the cake’s set at the edges.

Turn off the slow cooker, remove the lid, and let the cake cool for 30 – 45 minutes.

Spoon into bowls, serve the lava cake warm, and enjoy!

Storing Leftovers

Store leftovers in the covered bowl of the slow cooker in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Reheat individual portions in the microwave or reheat the whole thing in your slow cooker until warmed through.

Tips and Tricks

  • You must use the dish towel as it absorbs condensation. Without the towel, the condensation would collect on the lid and fall onto the cake preventing it from cooking properly.
  • This is delicious as is but amazing with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
  • Using extra moist cake mix is key for best results!
