I love being just a little extra when it comes to the fun holidays.

For Halloween, I have no problem taking two extra minutes to make my kids (and myself to be honest) fun food.

And these spider peanut butter and jelly sandwiches take no more than two extra minutes of your time.

But the creepy crawly spider sandwiches will weave a web of smiles that last all day long.

And that’s definitely worth it to me!

Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Bread– The recipe technically calls for white bread but you could use whatever bread you would normally serve pbjs on.
  • Peanut butter– Again I’m suggesting creamy peanut butter but if you prefer chunky go for it.
  • Jelly– Grape though you could use strawberry or whatever kind you like.
  • Pretzel sticks– To make legs
  • Mini chocolate chips– To make eyes.

How to Make

Turning ordinary pbjs into spider peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for Halloween is so easy!

Just use a glass or a round biscuit cutter to cut two circles out of the bread.

Get rid of the extra you cut off.

Then spread the peanut butter on one bread circle followed by the jelly.

Add three pretzel legs to each side and then close the sandwich with the other bread circle.

Then attach the chocolate chip eyes by dotting each chip with a little dab of peanut butter and sticking them on top of the sandwich.

Serve and enjoy!

Make Ahead Instructions

If you want to make these ahead of time, just wait to add the pretzel legs until just before serving.

However if you are sending this pbj in a school lunch, I would just stick the pretzels further towards the center of the sandwich so they will be more sturdily held in place.

Then store the sandwich in a container that is large enough for the sandwich with the legs to fit into so it is more protected.

Tips and Tricks

  • You can sub raisins, or even candy eyeballs, for the chocolate chips.
  • Use any kind of nut and seed butter you like and any kind of jelly. You could even sub Nutella for the jelly if you prefer.
  • It’s easy to make a whole batch of these.
