Who says pasta salad has to be a savory side dish? This sweet pasta salad with fruit and honey is a delicious variation on the classic picnic dish and features a refreshing combination of apples, red grapes, and walnuts in a honeyed yogurt dressing.
Sometimes all the savory side dishes get a little old.
While, yes, we love a good traditional pasta salad, we also love to switch it up.
And when we do, one of our favorite variations is this pasta salad with fruit.
It’s sweet without being cloying, full of texture, and super refreshing so it is perfect for hot summer days.
Best yet?
It’s so easy to make so you don’t have to spend a ton of time fussing over it.
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Cooked pasta– You can use any shorter pasta shape you prefer.
- Apples– I recommend Fuji, but you could use any variety of eating apple. Peel them, remove the cores, and chop them.
- Grapes– Red grapes, cut in half.
- Walnuts– Roughly chopped
- Greek yogurt– Plain Greek yogurt, not flavored.
- Honey
- Ginger paste
How to Make
To make this pasta salad with fruit and honey, just gently toss the cooked pasta, fruit, and walnuts together in a large bowl.
Set it aside,
Then, in a smaller bowl, whisk the yogurt, honey, and ginger paste together until it’s evenly combined.
Pour the dressing into the pasta mixture, tossing to coat everything.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate it for 2 hours.
When you are ready to serve it, uncover the bowl and give everything a stir.
Serve chilled and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days in the fridge.
You could store it longer, but the fruit won’t hold up super well for a long period of time.
Tips and Tricks
- There are some pasta shapes that hold sauces better. Since this is a thinner dressing, that’s an important factor here. We went with farfalle (bowtie) pasta, but other great options include penne, rotini, fusilli, and radiatore.
- You’ll see in the recipe that there’s a range in the amount of walnuts and honey included. For both it’s up to your personal preference depending on how crunchy and sweet you want the salad to be.
- You could add other mix-ins like raisins or dried cherries to this pasta salad as well.
