S’mores French Toast Bake

S'mores French toast bake is a mash up of soft, custardy French toast with gooey marshmallows, melty chocolate, and crunchy graham crackers for a breakfast that tastes like your favorite campfire treat. This indulgent breakfast casserole bakes in one dish, making it perfect for everything from holiday brunches to slow weekend mornings.

Ingredients

  • 1 12 oz slightly stale loaf of french bread cut into 1" cubes
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 1/4 cup chocolate milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 1/4 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1/3 cup crushed graham crackers + more for topping
  • powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  • Add the eggs, milk, sugar, and extract to a large mixing bowl. Whisk together until evenly combined.

  • Add the bread cubes, 1 cup of chocolate chips, 1 cup of marshmallows, and the crushed graham crackers to the bowl. Stir everything together until evenly incorporated and well coated.

  • Set the bowl aside and let the mixture rest for 20 minutes.
  • Spray a 2 quart, or 9x9", baking dish with nonstick spray. Transfer the bread mixture to the dish and spread it out in an even layer.
  • Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips and marshmallows overtop, along with some extra graham crackers pieces.
  • Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes, until the center's set and golden brown on top.
  • Carefully remove the hot dish from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes.
  • Dust the casserole with powdered sugar, slice, and serve warm.

Notes

  • If you don't want to use chocolate milk, that's ok. This will work with regular milk. It will just be a little less chocolatey.
  • You can use an equal amount of Italian style bakery bread or another similar style bread in this.
  • Day old bread is best since it will hold up better.
  • Put it together the night before to save time and cover the unbaked casserole. Put in the fridge until you are ready to bake it in the morning.
