There’s no need to toil tirelessly over a hot stove for hours on end just because it’s a holiday.

One of the biggest offenders of holiday time sucking dishes is definitely homemade stuffing.
Guys.
Seriously.
Step away from the stale bread and let’s make better stuffing from a box.
It’s easy, delicious, and will save you so much time!
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Stuffing box mix– Use any flavor of Stove Top Stuffing you like.
- Sausage– Ground seasoned sausage. Use a good quality sausage.
- Veggies– Chopped onion, celery, and carrots. Make your life easier and either use your food processor to chop them or buy a pre cut container from the grocery store.
- Chicken broth– If you can find turkey broth or stock in the store you can also use that.
- Hot water
- Butter– Salted or unsalted
- Seasoning– Poultry seasoning, dried thyme, and garlic powder
- Eggs– Beaten
How to Make
To make better stuffing from a box, start by sautéing the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat.
Break it up as it cooks, until it’s cooked through.
Once it’s cooked through, use a slotted spoon and transfer the cooked sausage to a large mixing bowl.
Do not drain the pan of sausage drippings.
Add the stuffing, broth, and hot water to the mixing bowl with the meat.
Stir everything together until it’s all evenly combined.
Then, melt the butter in the skillet with sausage drippings.
Once the butter is melted, sauté the veggies in the butter and sausage drippings mixture until they soften.
Stir occasionally.
After about 5 minutes when the veggies are softened slightly, transfer the softened veggies, seasonings, and beaten eggs to the mixing bowl.
Stir everything together quickly until evenly combined.
Spray a 2 quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray, then spread the stuffing mixture evenly out into the dish.
Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, uncover and bake another 5-10 minutes.
Serve warm and enjoy!
How many boxes of stuffing do I need?
This recipe calls for 2 boxes.
The general rule of thumb is each box serves 4 to 6 people.
So this recipe serves roughly 8 to 12 depending on everyone’s appetites!
Is homemade stuffing better than store bought?
Some people might think so but that’s just because they haven’t tried my tricks for making better stuffing from a box!
This semihomemade stuffing gives you the best of both worlds- an easy stuffing that is just as delicious or more delicious than homemade stuffing recipes.

Store leftover stuffing in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.

- Quality ground sausage is a must! I recommend buying some from your butcher. If using store bought, I typically buy Jimmy Dean brand.
- Want to save on prep time? Buy already chopped veggies in your produce section. They may even have a prepared mirepoix blend, which is just a mixture of chopped onion, celery, and carrots and works perfectly in this dish.

Stovetop Stuffing Bake
Ingredients
- 2 boxes stovetop stuffing
- 1 lb ground sausage
- 3/4 cup yellow onion
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
- 1/2 cup chopped carrots
- 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
- 1/4 tsp dried thyme
- pinch garlic powder
- 2 eggs beaten
Instructions
- Sauté the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks, until it's cooked through. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked sausage to a large mixing bowl.
- Add the stuffing, broth, and hot water to the mixing bowl with the meat. Stir together until evenly combined.
- Ad the butter to the skillet with sausage drippings, melt. Add the veggies to the skillet, and sauté them until softened, stirring occasionally- about 5 minutes.
