Easy air fryer green beans turns fresh or frozen beans into a delicious side. With this recipe, you’ll never go back to boiling or steaming them again!
Getting people like my boys and my husband to eat and enjoy their veggies is a bit of a trick.
If I serve them plain old boiled or steamed veggies, you can bet there will be grumbles.
But if I put some bacon on top and add some extra flavor, they eat them happily.
In fact, all my veggie haters love these air fryer green beans.
Seasoned with a little lemon, some garlic, and of course bacon, they will make everyone happy when they appear on the dinner table.
Ingredients
To make this side dish you’ll need:
- Green beans– Fresh green beans washed and trimmed or frozen green beans thawed.
- Bacon– Cut into 1/2″ pieces
- Onion– Diced red onion
- Oil– Extra virgin olive oil gives this the best flavor
- Lemon juice– Fresh or bottled but don’t skip it because it adds a bit of fresh zippiness
- Spices– Garlic powder, salt and pepper
How to Make
These air fryer green beans are very easy to make.
To do it, add all of the ingredients but the bacon and onion to a mixing bowl and toss them together to combine.
Then, transfer the seasoned beans to the basket of your air fryer, spread them out into an even layer.
Sprinkle the bacon and onions evenly out over the layer of beans.
Air fry the green beans at 370° for 12 minutes or until the bacon’s crispy and the beans have softened and slightly shriveled.
Serve the green beans warm and enjoy!
Using Frozen Green Beans
If using frozen beans, make sure they’re thawed first.
To do this, run them under cool water in a strainer in the sink until it’s thawed.
Then transfer the beans to a layer of paper towels, soaking off excess water and patting them as dry as possible.
At this point, proceed with the recipe as written.
Storing Leftovers
Store leftover air fryer green beans in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Can I make these in the oven?
Yes!
To make a similar recipe in the oven, spread the seasoned beans on a baking sheet in an even layer, topping with the onions and bacon.
Cook them at 425F for 18-20 minutes.
Tips and Tricks
- You can use fresh or jarred lemon juice, but don’t skip it! It really adds to the flavor of the dish.
- Slivered almonds make a great garnish and give the beans a bit of crunch.
- You can omit the bacon if preferred.
- These can also be made using an air fryer oven, but may take longer to cook.
- Different brands of air fryers may vary in temperature when cooking, this is why we recommend checking the beans halfway through the cook time.
- I do not recommend using canned beans for this recipe. They will not crisp up, and just get mushier.
