Bacon Cheeseburger Mac And Cheese (From A Box)
Bacon cheeseburger mac and cheese turns a simple box of macaroni and cheese into a complete Hamburger Helper style meal. This easy dinner is satisfying, quick, and perfect for anyone who loves a good bacon burger!
Boxed mac and cheese is a staple in this house.
You can do so much with it if you just….think outside the box.
See what I did there?
Anyway, bad puns aside, this bacon cheeseburger mac and cheese turns a simple box of mac into a total dinner solution complete with a protein and even a little veggie action thanks to diced tomatoes.
And it all happens in the time it takes to make your noodles, making it perfect for even the busiest of nights.
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Boxed macaroni and cheese– A 24 ounce box of Velveeta Shells and Cheese. You could substitute another kind of mac and cheese if you use the equal size. Just be aware that the Velveeta Shells and Cheese comes with the premade packet of cheese sauce while other versions may come with powdered cheese and require other ingredients.
- Ground beef– Lean ground beef so it’s not too greasy and doesn’t cook down too much.
- Spices– Onion powder, garlic powder, and ground mustard
- Toppings– Relish, crumbled bacon, and diced tomatoes
How to Make
Bacon cheeseburger mac and cheese is so easy to make thanks to the boxed mac!
To make it, just prepare the pasta according to the directions on the package.
While the pasta is cooking, brown the beef in a large skillet over medium heat until there is no pink left.
Drain of the extra grease and set the beef aside while you strain your pasta.
Return the cooked pasta to the pot and stir in the cheese sauce, cooked beef, seasonings, mustard, and relish.
Serve, topping each bowl with crumbled bacon and diced tomatoes.
Enjoy!
Other Topping Ideas
There’s already a ton of flavor action happening in this bacon cheeseburger mac but you can add your other favorite burger toppings as well.
Other yummy ideas include:
- Chopped sliced dill pickles
- Diced onions
- Shredded lettuce
- Extra cheese
- Big Mac sauce
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
I do recommend storing the diced tomatoes separately to keep them from getting too soggy.
Tips and Tricks
- Adjust the seasonings to suit your taste.
- If you are using another kind of mac and cheese, make sure you have the other ingredients listed on the box.
- Straining the beef will keep it from being too greasy so don’t skip that step,
- This also works with ground chicken or ground turkey instead!
