Cake In A Jar

Basically, you want your cake and you want to eat it too!

Those times call for cake in a jar.

It is a fun way to enjoy homemade cake in an easy, individually portioned dessert.

And if you are serving a crowd, you can make everyone happy.

They’re simple to customize with different cake flavors, frostings, and toppings.

Whether you’re planning a party or just want something a little easier than a traditional cake or cupcake, this is for you!

Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Flour– All purpose
  • Baking powder– For lift
  • Salt– To balance the sweetness
  • Butter– Unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • Sugar– Granulated
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract– Real is best
  • Milk– Whole will give you the best results
  • Frosting– Any kind you like
  • Toppings– Sprinkles, chocolate chips, nuts, etc.

How to Make

Making cake in a jar is so easy!

Preheat your oven to (175°C). Grease the inside of each mason jar with cooking spray or butter and set aside.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium mixing bowl.

Set aside the dry ingredients.

Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using a hand or stand mixer until the combination is light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time making sure each egg is fully incorporated.

Then, beat in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk.

Mix the batter until it is just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Divide the batter evenly among mason jars sprayed with nonstick spray or greased with butter, filling each jar about halfway full.

Place the filled mason jars on a baking sheet and transfer them to a 350°F oven.

Bake the cakes for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cake comes out clean.

At this point, take the jars out of the oven and set them on a wire rack to cool completely.

Once the cakes are cooled, spread a layer of frosting on top of each cake in the jar.

Decorate them with your favorite toppings or let your guests decorate their own.

Screw the lids onto the jars and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Serve and enjoy!

Storing

These are so easy to store!

Just secure the lids on each and pop them in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t overmix the batter. This helps keep the cake light and fluffy.
  • Only fill each jar halfway! This will keep it from baking over the top.
  • Don’t want to make homemade frosting? Use your favorite canned frosting, but make it better!
  • Use 16 ounce mason jars for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

  • Divide the batter evenly among the prepared mason jars, filling each jar about halfway full.
  • Place the filled mason jars on a baking sheet and transfer them to the preheated oven. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cake comes out clean.
  • Remove the jars from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Once cooled, spread a layer of frosting on top of each cake in the jar. Add your favorite toppings to decorate.
