This easy bacon cheeseburger dip is paired with sesame seed hamburger bun croutons for the ultimate game day snack or party dip that tastes just like your favorite burger with all the fixings. It’s quick to throw together even at the last minute, and hearty enough for even the hungriest guests.
My kids are always clawing at me, and clamoring, for the next snack. But I’m just one mom!
I don’t have time to make them individual snacks- I’m not a short order cook after all.
So one size fits all recipes are what works best for me.
Luckily this easy cheeseburger dip is the perfect thing to whip up at the last minute, and hearty enough to feed a hungry crew.
Best of all- it tastes just like one of my family’s favorite meals, but in a hot dip.
Ingredients Needed
This easy cheeseburger dip only requires a handful of simple ingredients.
To make it you’ll need:
- Beef – Ground beef, and specifically lean ground beef. Since this is a cheese based dip and cheese has a lot of natural oil, using lean ground beef will prevent your dip from being greasy.
- Cheese – You’ll need both cream cheese and shredded cheddar.
- Sour Cream – I recommend using full fat sour cream since it’s thicker than no/low fat sour cream. You can substitute, just know that your dip will have a thinner consistency.
- Tomatoes – A regular size can of diced tomatoes with green chiles, and do not drain the juice from the can.
- Relish – A tiny bit of dill pickle relish infuses this cheeseburger dip with a hint of pickle flavor.
- Bacon – Crisp, crumbled bacon that’s been drained of excess grease.
- Hamburger Buns – Sesame seed hamburger buns, for making dunk-able croutons. If your buns are day old and a bit stale, that’s even better.
- Oil – Tossing your chopped hamburger buns with a little bit of extra virgin olive oil will give them the perfect crispness, without them being overly crunchy.
Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, you’re ready to get started on the dip!
How To Make
Y’all know how we roll around here- the easier a recipe is, the better and true to form this cheeseburger dip is both quick and easy.
To make it, start by browning the ground beef in a skillet. Crumble it as it cooks, until it’s browned throughout with no pink remaining.
Be sure to drain off as much grease as possible.
Add cubes of softened cream cheese to the beef in the skillet, and stir until the mixture’s evenly combined. Transfer this to a large mixing bowl.
Add the remaining dip ingredients to the mixing bowl, and stir until evenly combined.
Transfer the dip mixture to an 8×8″ baking dish, and spread it out in an even layer.
Bake the cheeseburger dip at 350F for 20-25 minutes, just until the cheese has melted and the dip’s hot & bubbly.
While the dip’s baking, get your hamburger bun croutons ready.
Add the hamburger bun cubes to a mixing bowl, and drizzle them with the olive oil then gently toss to coat.
Transfer the croutons to a large rimmed baking sheet, and spread them out in an even layer.
Once the dip’s reached it’s halfway point in the oven, add the croutons to the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes.
For the best results stir them halfway through and spread them out again. The croutons are done once they’re a rich golden brown color and crisp on the outside.
Carefully remove both the hot dip and croutons from the oven.
Let the dip rest for 5-10 minutes before serving- so that it’s still nice and warm, but not burn the roof of your mouth and singe your tongue hot.
Serve warm with the hamburger bun croutons and enjoy!
Other Dipping Options
While I highly recommend serving it with the hamburger bun croutons, you don’t have to.
Other tasty options include:
- Corn Chips
- Sliced Baguette
- Tortilla Chips
- Crackers
- Pretzels
- Celery Sticks or Sweet Pepper Strips
Storing
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
When ready to enjoy again they can be heated up by microwave, re-baking, or in a pot on the stovetop.
If using the stovetop, add a little milk to thin it and help it reconstitute without burning.
Should You Use Olive Oil In The Air Fryer?
Yes, absolutely.
However, you’ll want to make sure it’s a refined version like light or extra light. These olive oils have a higher smoke point, making them safer for cooking at high temperatures.
Can This Cheesy Hamburger Dip Be Made In A Crockpot?
Cheeseburger dip is a perfect option for the crockpot, especially for a busy function where you’ve got a lot going on.
Cook the ground beef, as instructed, and make sure to drain off as much grease as possible.
Then add all of the remaining ingredients to the bowl of your slow cooker, stirring to combine as much as possible.
Cover and cook on low heat for 3-4 hours.
