Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks (Papa John’s Copycat)

Cheesy garlic breadsticks transform a ho hum can of pizza dough into a drool-worthy side dish or appetizer everyone loves! And this recipe is easy enough that even the kids can help put it together.

Is there anything better than a cheesy breadstick fresh from the oven?

The answer is yes: a cheesy breadstick that is easy as could be to make!

This version uses premade, refrigerated pizza dough and turns it into a dippable side we love with pizza, pasta, and even salads.

Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Pizza dough– Go for the canned dough you can find in the refrigerated section or use any homemade pizza dough.
  • Olive oil– For brushing the dough
  • Cheese– Shredded mozzarella and shredded provolone
  • Garlic– Minced
  • Italian Seasoning

How to Make

To make these breadsticks, roll out pizza dough on a baking pan.

Then, brush the dough lightly all over with olive oil.

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and provolone evenly all over the dough.

Spread the minced garlic and Italian seasoning over top.

Bake the breadsticks at 425 for 12-18 minutes.

When the dough is golden and cheese has melted, remove the baking dish from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before cutting.

Use a pizza cutter to cut into breadstick-sized strips.

Serve with you favorite sauce if desired.

  • Shredded provolone is optional but does add a lot of flavor.
  • Want to add another cheesy layer? Sprinkle on some Parmesan too.
  • You can add more garlic if desired or skip it all together if you don’t do garlic.

Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated pizza dough or one loaf of homemade pizza dough
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for brushing the dough
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 1/4 cup shredded provolone optional
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning

Instructions

  • Roll out pizza dough on a baking pan. Brush dough lightly all over with olive oil.
  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and provolone, if using, all over the dough. Use your fingers and sprinkle minced garlic all over the dough. Sprinkle Italian seasoning on the top, as desired.
  • Bake at 425 for 12-18 minutes.
  • Let sit for 5 minutes before cutting. Use a pizza cutter to cut into breadstick-sized strips. Serve with marinara sauce, if desired.
