French onion dip has always been one of those flavors that disappears fast anytime it shows up at the table.

The sons and I dunk just about anything into it so turning it into chicken salad seemed like a no brainer.

It might be one of the easiest ways to make any sandwich or wrap a little more exciting.

The sour cream based French onion dip coats tender chicken with that familiar savory flavor in every bite.

It’s quick to throw together and keeps well in the fridge for easy meals throughout the week.

Whether you pile it onto bread, tuck it into a wrap, or scoop it up with crackers, this upgraded chicken salad makes lunch and dinner feel a little special and a lot more fun.

Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Chicken– I used diced rotisserie chicken with the skin and bones removed. You could also use diced grilled chicken.
  • Sour cream– Use fall fat for the best texture.
  • Dried minced onion– This is what will really give it that French onion dip flavor
  • Spices– Onion powder, garlic powder, and salt

How to Make

French onion dip chicken salad is so easy to make!

To do it, just stir all the ingredients except the chicken, together in a mixing bowl to evenly combine them.

Then stir the chicken into the seasoned sour cream mixture until the mixture coats the sour cream.

Serve and enjoy or store in the fridge until you are ready to serve it.

Tips and Tricks

  • The chicken salad is ready as soon as it’s combined, but I do recommend making it in advance so that the dehydrated onion pieces have time to soften in the fridge.
  • Adjust the seasoning to your liking.
  • This is delicious in sandwiches, wraps, served over a bed of lettuce, or even with crackers.
