Homemade burrito bowls are a yummy Chipotle copycat recipe you can make right at home. Just like at Chipotle, each bowl is totally customizable so everyone will be sure to enjoy their meal!
I have a total addiction to Chipotle.
It’s so good, but it’s totally unaffordable to take all 6 of us there more than just once in awhile.
So I make copycat Chipotle recipes at home all the time.
And these homemade burrito bowls are a winner with everyone in our house.
Just like at Chipotle, these are totally customizable so each person can enjoy them exactly how they want to.
And this is why unlike most of our recipes, we don’t list specific amounts.
How much you use is up to you!
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Rice– I recommend this Instant Pot Cilantro Lime Rice since it tastes just like Chipotle!
- Steak strips– Homemade Chipotle Steak Strips taste just like the real deal
- Corn salsa– Our Corn Salsa Recipe is another Chipotle copycat.
- Black beans– Canned beans drained and rinsed
- Cheese– Shredded monterrey jack. Don’t have this? Use cheddar.
- Pico de gallo– This Easy Homemade Pico De Gallo is a pretty spot on version of the restaurant’s.
- Guacamole– Homemade or store bought
- Sour cream
How to Make
If you make the different parts of these copycat Chipotle burrito bowls ahead of time, this is such an easy meal!
To make them start by adding a couple scoops of the prepared rice to the bottom of a large bowl.
Top the rice with steak, corn salsa, and black beans.
Garnish with cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream and any other toppings as desired.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
Other Burrito Bowl Toppings
The toppings listed in this recipe are our favorites but you can customize these bowls with other toppings if you want.
Some tasty ideas include:
- grilled peppers and onions
- tomatillo salsa
- queso blanco
- lettuce
- jalapenos
- cilantro
Storing Leftovers
This is one of those meals where it’s better to store each component of it in separate air tight containers in the fridge.
If you store leftovers of already assembled burrito bowls they get sort of soggy and sad.
Tips and Tricks
- Want to make this dinner quicker and easier? You can use store bought grilled steak strips, prepared pico de gallo, and store bought guacamole.
- I like to plan these into my weekly menu and make double of the steak and rice so I can use the leftovers to make these bowls.
- Let each person build their own bowl.
