Lucky Charms treats are a fun take on cereal bars perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. This no bake recipe is kid friendly and easy to make any time you want something magically delicious!
When my kids were small, I tried to celebrate everything with them.
It’s sort of hard to celebrate something like St. Patrick’s Day though in a family friendly way.
But I played up the leprechaun aspect and did leprechaun traps and of course made silly themed leprechaun treats.
And of all the ones I made, Lucky Charms treats are our favorites.
Sure, they are in no way authentically Irish or Irish American.
But they are bright and colorful and play into that leprechaun theme.
And best of all, they are as easy as making Rice Krispie treats and the result is definitely magically delicious!
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Butter– A full stick of butter. I highly recommend using salted butter since a little salt enhances the sweetness of the recipe
- Lucky Charms– An 11.5 ounce box
- Marshmallows– Mini marshmallows work best. A full bag of them.
How to Make
If you’ve ever made a Rice Krispie treat, you’ll be able to easily make these Lucky Charms treats as it’s a pretty similar process.
To do it spray a 9×13″ baking pan with non stick cooking spray and then line the sprayed pan with parchment paper.
Then, melt the butter to a large pot set over low heat.
When the butter is completely melted, stir in the marshmallows and keep stirring until they completely melt.
Take the pot off of the heat and then stir in the cereal until it’s evenly coated with the melted marshmallows.
Transfer the cereal mixture to the prepared pan and spread out in an even layer, pressing it down gently.
Let the treats rest until they are completely cooled and mostly set.
Using the edges of the parchment paper remove the cereal slab from the pan and transfer to a cutting board.
Carefully cut into squares using a sharp knife and serve.
Enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
Store any leftovers in an airtight container on your counter.
The treats will stay fresh for a week or so.
Tips and Tricks
- You don’t have to spray the pan with cooking spray but it really helps keep the parchment paper in place, especially when spreading the sticky cereal mixture out.
- Be careful not to crush the cereal when stirring.
- When pressing the cereal mixture into the baking dish, be careful not to pack it down too much. You want chewy cereal bars, not rock hard ones.
- To make a copycat General Mill’s Lucky Charms breakfast cereal treat bars, dip the bottoms of the set cereal bars in melted white chocolate.
