Mississippi comeback sauce is a versatile southern classic loaded with tons of tangy flavor! It’s delicious as a dipping sauce for fries and other fried treats or as a salad dressing or sandwich spread.

I love using new and different sauces for things like fries, chicken, and other fried favorites.

Mississippi comeback sauce is a a delicious and easy way to spice things up.

With a creamy mayonnaise base, tangy ketchup and dijon mustard, and a shot of chili sauce and spices, you’ll love dipping anything and everything into this sauce.

Where did Mississippi Comeback Sauce Come From?

Mississippi came from a Greek restaurant called The Rotisserie in Jackson, Mississippi.

It was originally served as the house salad dressing.

Now many Mississippi restaurants serve this sauce, which was named for a traditional way of saying goodbye in the Mississippi area.

What is Comeback Sauce Made of?

Comeback sauce is a combination of mayonnaise, ketchup, chili sauce or hot sauce, Dijon mustard, seasonings and olive oil.

Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Mayonnaise– Real, full fat mayonnaise and not mayonnaise style dressing or Miracle Whip.
  • Ketchup
  • Chili sauce– You can find this in the Asian food aisle
  • Mustard– Dijon
  • Spices– Onion powder, garlic powder, and ground black pepper
  • Other sauces– Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce
  • Olive oil– Extra virgin is best
  • Lemon juice– Fresh

How to Make

Mississippi comeback sauce is so easy to make.

Just whisk all of the ingredients together in a small mixing bowl until evenly combined.

Serve immediately or cover and chill before using.

Serving Suggestions

You’ll love dipping the following into this sauce:

  • fried chicken
  • hushpuppies
  • fried shrimp
  • fried pickles

It also makes a great burger or taco sauce, sandwich spread, and is so good on salad or drizzled on nachos!

Storing Leftovers

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t have chili sauce? Add extra hot sauce.
  • If you don’t want this to have a kick omit the hot sauce and reduce the chili sauce.
  • Adjust the seasoning to suit your taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup chili sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • juice of one lemon
