Pear cider is an easy Instant Pot recipe for a sweet, festive alternative to hot apple cider. Featuring sweet pears and notes of citrus and spice, this will be your new favorite way to warm up this fall and holiday season!
Apple cider gets an unfair amount of love.
There.
I said what I said.
Pear cider is a delicious alternative to its more famous cousin and a yummy way to use up the bounty of pears this season.
Is pear cider sweet like apple cider?
Pear cider, overall, is a bit more delicate than apple cider.
It’s more subtle with less tartness and can actually be sweeter than apple cider but no less delicious!
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Pears– Ripe pears seeded and cut into quarters
- Navel orange– Quartered
- Spices– Cinnamon sticks and whole cardamom
- Water
- Brown sugar– This is optional and you can add it according to your tastes.
How to Make
Instant pot pear cider is a really easy dump and go recipe that results in a festive, cozy drink.
To make this warm cider, add the quartered and seeded pears and quartered orange to the liner of the pot along with the spices.
Then pour the water overtop.
Secure the lid on the pot and set the vent valve to the sealed position.
Cook it on high pressure for 10 minutes.
When it’s done, naturally release the pressure.
Once the pin drops, turn the vent valve to release any remaining hot steam and open the pot.
Then, set a mesh strainer over a large pitcher or bowl, and pour the pear mixture through it to separate the liquids from the solids.
Mash the fruit into the side of the strainer with a wooden spoon, holding the strainer over the liquid so you release all the remaining liquid.
Discard the pulp after you have pressed all the fruit.
Give the cider a taste and stir in sugar if you feel it needs it.
Serve warm and enjoy!
Is pear cider made with apples?
No.
While some varieties of pear cider have apple juice or apple in them, this is more of a perry and does not.
Storing
To store pear cider, let it cool completely and pour it into a pitcher or container.
Store it in the fridge for up to a week.
Reheat on the stove or in individual cups in the microwave.
