Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Puff pastry– 1 package thawed or homemade puff pastry
  • Pesto sauce– Your favorite store bought pesto sauce
  • Parmesan cheese– Shredded and a wedge or sliced Parmesan cheese you’ve cut into a small star with a mini cookie cutter

How to Make

Pesto puff pastry Christmas trees are such easy appetizers to make!

To do it, use a sharp knife to cut strips of puff pastry from the shorter side about 3/4″ wide.

Spread the pesto sauce out onto the puff pastry and sprinkle the shredded Parmesan cheese out on top.

Push a wooden skewer through the middle of each layer making sure that they are spread out evenly. 

Bake the puff pastry Christmas trees in a 400 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Once the puff pastry is golden brown, remove it from the oven and decorate with a star shaped piece of Parmesan.

Storing

These are best enjoyed the day you make them.

However, you can store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Reheat in a hot oven until warmed though.

Tips and Tricks

  • You can use mozzarella or an Italian cheese blend in place of Parmesan if you prefer.
  • Brighten up the pesto by squeezing a little lemon juice into the sauce.
  • Don’t want to use a star shaped piece of cheese as a tree topper? A cherry tomato would be an easy substitute!

Ingredients

  • 1 17.3 oz box puff pastry 2-3 sheets
  • 1/2 cup pesto sauce
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan
  • parmesan cheese cut into stars with a mini cookie cutter

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut strips of pastry from the shorter side, about 3/4" wide.

  • Spread pesto sauce with a knife or spatula and sprinkle shredded parmesan on top.
    1/2 cup pesto sauce, 1 cup shredded parmesan
  • Take a wooden skewer and push through the middle of each layer, making sure that they are spread out evenly.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes until it’s golden brown.
  • Let them cool, then decorate with star shaped parmesan.
