Slow Cooker Little Smokies Recipe

Slow cooker Little Smokies are a bold, easy appetizer that takes only a few minutes to put together. They are perfect for any party or even tailgating and a must make during the fall and holiday season.

Now that summer is coming to a close, that means one thing.

Football season is upon us and the holidays aren’t far behind.

And that means all the appetizers.

These slow cooker Little Smokies are where it’s at.

They are really yummy with a bold, tangy sauce with just a hint of kick.

And they couldn’t be easier to make!

It’s pretty much dump and go and the slow cooker does everything else.

Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Small Smoked Sausages– AKA Lit’l Smokies, which is the Hillshire Farms brand version. You can use other similar products from different brands as well.
  • Barbecue sauce– This is the predominant flavor of the sauce so make sure you’re using a barbecue sauce you like.
  • Brown sugar– Either light or dark
  • Vinegar– Apple cider vinegar
  • Spices– Ground mustard and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

How to Make

Slow cooker Little Smokies are so easy!

Just stir all of the ingredients except the sausages together in the bowl of your slow cooker until they are evenly combined>

Then add the sausages and toss them in the sauce to coat them.

Put the lid on your slow cooker and let everything cook on low for 3-4 hours or high for 1.5-2 hours.

Serve warm and enjoy!

Slow cooker Little Smokies make a delicious addition to any appetizer spread!

Storing Leftovers

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Freezing Instructions

These freeze beautifully for up to 3 months!

To freeze, make them as directed above and then let them cool to room temperature.

Transfer them to a freezer safe, airtight container and freeze them.

Defrost them overnight in the fridge or in the microwave on defrost prior to reheating and serving.

Tips and Tricks

  • The sauce is on the thinner side. If you prefer a thicker sauce then add 1 teaspoon of cornstarch in with the other sauce ingredients at the beginning.
  • Red pepper flakes are totally optional. If you do not like spice, skip them.
  • The barbecue sauce is the most important part of the sauce. You can really change the flavor based on the sauce you choose. And don’t forget that you are adding sugar to the mix so a sweet sauce may be too sweet in this.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lil smokies sausages
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp ground mustard
  • pinch crushed red pepper flakes optional

Instructions

  • Add all of the ingredients, except the sausage, to the bowl of your slow cooker. Whisk until evenly combined.

  • Add the sausages and gently toss them in the sauce until they're all evenly coated.

  • Cover and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours, or on HIGH for 1 1/2 -2 hours.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!
