There is nothing more satisfying than a hot dog loaded with all the toppings.

And I’m not just talking about mustard, ketchup, onions, and relish.

Oh no.

You haven’t lived until you’ve had a hot dog topped with New York style spicy hot dog meat sauce.

Hot dog meat sauce is a finely crumbled, seasoned beef sauce that’s very similar to chili.

You let it simmer until it’s thick and spoonable, specifically for piling on top of hot dogs.

This version brings that classic flavor with a little extra heat for a spicy kick.

Spoon it over hot dogs, but don’t stop there because it’s just as good on fries, burgers, or even nachos!

Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Ground beef– Use 80/20. No need to get the extra lean stuff but you don’t want it too fatty either.
  • Dried minced onion– A whole cup of it.
  • Water
  • Spices– Chili powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, ground cinnamon, salt, and pepper

How to Make

This spicy hot dog meat sauce is pretty easy to make.

Just cook and crumble the beef in a large pot set over medium high heat until it’s cooked through.

Stir in the remaining ingredients.

Bring the sauce to a boil.

As soon as it starts to boil, immediately turn the heat down to low.

Simmer for 3 hours, stirring often.

After 3 hours, taste the chili and adjust the seasonings, if needed.

Let the chili cool.
