I love it in pie, on its own, and definitely in this walking banana pudding dessert!

What is a walking dessert?

Walking desserts are the sweet version of walking tacos.

It refers to any dessert served in a bag of cookies or graham crackers that you eat with a spoon and can walk around with.

Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Nilla Wafers– Get the 1 ounce bags of mini Nilla Wafers. They need to be the individual serving bags or this recipe won’t work.
  • Banana cream pie pudding cup– Just one split between two desserts.
  • Banana– Sliced into about 10 slices
  • Whipped topping

How to Make

This walking banana pudding dessert is so easy to make!

Just cut off the top edge of the bags of Nilla Wafers.

Then take four cookies out of each bag and set them aside to use later as garnish.

Open the pudding cup and give it a stir.

Spoon half of the pudding cup into each bag of Nilla wafers right on top of the cookies.

Storing

I don’t recommend storing these for longer than an hour after you make them in the fridge.

Because these are individual dessert servings, only make what you think you will need.

Tips and Tricks

  • If you want the cookies to be crunchy when you serve this dessert, serve and enjoy them right after you assemble them.
  • For a more authentic banana pudding experience, assemble them an hour prior to serving and refrigerate them to let the cookies get soft.
  • Can’t find cups of banana pudding? Make the instant pudding from a box instead.
  • Adjust the amount of the bananas and whipped cream to suit your tastes.
  • If you are feeding a crowd and using the 12 pack of mini Nilla Wafers, you’ll need 6 pudding cups, 6 bananas, and a 16 ounce container of whipped topping to use all the bags up.

  • 2 1 oz bags Mini Nilla Wafers
  • 1 3.25 oz Banana Cream Pie Pudding Cup
  • 1 Banana sliced (about 10 slices)
  • 1/2 cup Whipped Topping

Instructions

  • Turn each bag of mini nilla wafers on their side, and use scissors to cut off the edge.
  • Take four cookies out of each bag and set them aside to use as a garnish for later.
  • Open the pudding cup and mix it.
  • Spoon half of the pudding cup into each bag, on top of the cookies.
  • Place about 3-4 slices of fresh banana on top of the pudding in each bag.
  • Using a frosting bag or spoon, dollop about ¼ cup whipped topping into each bag, on top of the bananas.
  • Top each bag with two slices of banana and three cookies, if desired. Use the final cookie left out of each bag to crumble it and sprinkle it over each dessert for a bit of added garnishing.
  • Add a spoon and enjoy!

Notes

  • If you want the cookies to be crunchy when you serve this dessert, serve and enjoy them right after you assemble them.
  • For a more authentic banana pudding experience, assemble them an hour prior to serving and refrigerate them to let the cookies get soft.
  • Can't find cups of banana pudding? Make the instant pudding from a box instead.
  • Adjust the amount of the bananas and whipped cream to suit your tastes.
  • If you are feeding a crowd and using the 12 pack of mini Nilla Wafers, you'll need 6 pudding cups, 6 bananas, and a 16 ounce container of whipped topping to use all the bags up.

If you prefer the cookies to be crunchy when serving, you can’t make these ahead of time, and they will need to be eaten as they’re made. However, REAL banana pudding usually has some soft cookies in it, so if you let these sit for about an hour in the fridge, after they are assembled, they will produce soft cookies in the bottom and be even closer to the real thing. I do not suggest storing for longer than an hour or so for the soft cookies.
● You can skip the pudding cups and use a box of banana cream instant pudding instead. Either is fine.
● You can add more bananas or whipped cream, or adjust the amounts of anything to suit your preferences. We all have that perfect ratio when it comes to how we like our banana pudding.
● If you’re using the 12-pack of mini Nilla Wafers, it will take 6 pudding cups, 6 bananas, and a 16-ounce container of whipped topping in order to use all the bags included in the pack.
