Big Bell Beefer Sandwich (Taco Bell Copycat)
A Big Bell Beefer sandwich is a copycat of a nostalgic Taco Bell menu item. This sandwich features taco flavored ground beef topped with cheddar cheese, onion, Taco Bell sauce, and shredded lettuce nestled between toasted hamburger buns.
You know how some foods just taste like childhood?
This Big Bell Beefer sandwich is one of those nostalgic treats for me.
I remember eating it back in the day growing up and then again when it came back out in 2012.
It’s a glorious combination of taco meat nestled in a sloppy Joe style sandwich.
And it is unbelievably delicious!
You’ll love this easy taste of Taco Bell nostalgia that you can have on your table in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Ground beef– Lean ground beef. I recommend at least 90/10 so it’s not too greasy.
- Taco Bell taco seasoning– 1 packet of it
- Cheese– Shredded cheddar
- Onion– Finely diced white onion
- Taco Bell sauce– I suggest mild, but you can use hot or even fire sauce depending on your preferred heat level.
- Lettuce– Shredded lettuce
- Hamburger buns– White ones
How to Make
Making a Big Bell Beefer sandwich is easy!
Start by cooking the meat in a large skillet, crumbling it as it cooks, until completely browned.
Strain off all grease.
Then stir in the taco seasoning and the water called for on the packet.
Let the mixture simmer for 8 to 10 minutes on medium low heat to thicken the mixture.
Take the skillet off the heat.
Add a quarter of the meat mixture into a lightly toasted hamburger bun.
Drizzle taco sauce over the meat.
Then top it with cheese, onion, and lettuce, in that order to melt the cheese and keep the lettuce crisp.
Repeat this with each sandwich.
Serve and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
I don’t recommend storing leftover assembled sandwiches since they will get soggy but you can absolutely save the leftover meat.
Just scoop the meat into an airtight container and refrigerate it for up to 4 days.
Reheat in the microwave before serving again.
Tips and Tricks
- Toasting the buns is an optional step, but one I highly recommend since it will keep them from getting soggy when they’re loaded up with the wet taco meat.
- The order of adding the sandwich ingredients is important. Having the cheese on the hot meat helps it melt while putting the lettuce on last keeps it crispier.
- You can add other taco toppings if you like like avocado slices, jalapenos, or sour cream.
