Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Sour cream– The base of the dip. I highly recommend full fat sour cream for the best flavor but you could use light sour cream if desired.
- Dried minced onion and onion powder– These are the two ingredients that give this dip its onion flavor. You can’t substitute these.
- Other seasoning– Garlic powder, salt, and dried parsley
How to Make
This copycat Dean’s French onion dip recipe could not be easier to make!
Just whisk all the ingredients together in a small bowl until everything is evenly combined.
Give it a taste and adjust the seasonings to your taste.
Cover it and refrigerate the dip for 1-2 hours.
Serve with your favorite dippers and enjoy!
What to Serve with Onion Dip
You could serve so many different dippers with this! Our favorites include:
- potato chips
- pretzel sticks
- bagel chips
- crackers
- celery sticks
- carrot sticks
- bell pepper strips
- cucumber slices
Storing
Store the dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Tips and Tricks
- I recommend making this dip at least an hour ahead of time so it can chill. The chill time lets the dried onion soften and the flavors marry and meld.
- This is different than the french onion dip that’s made with a packet of french onion soup mix or caramelized onions. You don’t need a soup packet or to cut up and caramelize onions for this.
- As the dip sits, the sour cream may separate, making the dip a little watery. Don’t worry! This is normal. Just give it a good stir to bring it back together.
