Homemade microwave Spaghettio’s are a tastier version of the canned pasta kids know and love. This 3 ingredient pasta recipe is perfect for a quick lunch or easy dorm room cooking any time.
My sons are starting to leave the nest.
I want them to know how to feed themselves.
Truthfully, this is not just because I want them to be able to survive outside of our house, but also because it would be amazing not to have to cook for 4 boys.
After all, one of the hardest parts of being a mom is having to feed them when they tell me they are hungry.
And I can tell you they eat almost as often as newborns now that they are just about grown and have that same insatiable appetite.
Mama’s tired y’all,
But these homemade microwave Spaghettio’s are a step towards independence.
Each of them, from my youngest to my oldest, can make these own their own.
And that feels like a major win in my book.
Ingredients
To make these you only need 3 (4 if you count water) ingredients:
- Pasta– Ditalini pasta
- Water
- Tomato sauce– Your favorite brand
- Cheese– Shredded cheddar though you can use any shredded cheese you like
How to Make
These homemade spaghettio’s in the microwave could not be easier to make!
Just grab a large microwave safe mug and add the pasta and water to it.
Microwave it for 7 minutes, stirring it at minutes 5, 4, 2, 1, and then when there is 30 seconds left.
Carefully take the mug out of the microwave and stir in the sauce and cheese.
Microwave it for 30 seconds more.
Stir again, serve, and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
This is a dish that meant to be eaten right when you make it since it only serves 1.
However, if you do have leftovers you can pop them into an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days.
Tips and Tricks
- I find mugs can get very hot when microwaved for long periods so I like to place mine in the microwave on a cloth pot holder to make taking it in and out easier (and safer).
- Stir, stir, stir! It keeps the pasta from sticking together.
- Make sure you aren’t using a small mug. You want to use a 15 ounce mug or larger.
Other Microwave Recipes
