Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Ground beef– A pound of 80/20 ground beef. Fattier beef will shrink too much and leaner beef won’t be as juicy.
  • Seasonings– Salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder
  • Liquid smoke– For that flame grilled flavor. Use hickory or mesquite.
  • Cheese– Sliced American cheese
  • Buns– Sesame seed burger buns. Toast them.
  • Onion rings– Frozen onion rings cooked according to the package instructions.
  • Barbecue sauce– Your favorite brand.
  • Pickles– Optional for serving.

How to Make

These copycat Rodeo Burgers are easy to make!

Just mix together the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and liquid smoke in a large bowl.

Form into 4 equal patties, slightly larger than the buns.

Once you have made the patties, heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.

When the pan is nice and hot, cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side or they are until browned on both sides and cooked through.

During the last minute of cooking, top each burger with a slice of cheese and cover the pan with a lid so the cheese melts.

Take the burgers off the heat and transfer them to a waiting plate.

Then toast the hamburger buns in the same skillet or put them under the broiler with the insides of the bun facing up for 1–2 minutes until golden and lightly crisp.

Drizzle with more barbecue sauce and finish with the top bun.
