Traditional Black Bean Salsa vs. Creamy Black Bean Salsa
Traditional black bean salsas and salads come from Southwester and Tex-Mex cuisine.
Creamy black bean salsa evolved from those recipes.
Traditional black bean salsa typically combines black beans, sweet corn, diced tomatoes, onions, peppers, cilantro, and lime juice.
The creamy version is a potluck and party-food variation.
It adds ingredients like sour cream and mayonnaise to the classic black bean salad ingredients.

Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Black beans– Canned black beans that you’ve drained and rinsed.
- Corn– Drained canned yellow sweet corn.
- Bell peppers– A large red bell pepper and a large green bell pepper. Seed and dice them both.
- Red onion– A small, peeled and diced red onion.
- Cilantro– Fresh chopped cilantro leaves that you’ve rinsed and dried well.
- Sour cream– Full fat tastes best.
- Mayonnaise– Real, full fat mayonnaise and not mayonnaise style dressing or low fat mayo.
- Vinegar– Red wine vinegar.
- Spices– Cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

How to Make
This creamy black bean salsa recipe is the perfect appetizer because it’s so easy to make.
Just stir the beans, corn, peppers, onion, and cilantro together in a mixing bowl until evenly combined.
Whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, vinegar, and seasonings until everything is evenly combined in a separate mixing bowl.
Pour the dressing over the vegetable mixture and toss the salsa until everything is coated in the dressing.
Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy or store in an airtight container in the fridge until you are ready to serve.

Storing Leftovers

Tips and Tricks
- Make it ahead of time and store it in the fridge until you are ready to serve. It is one of those recipes that actually tastes better if it has a chance to sit.
- Make sure to drain the black beans and corn well and pat the cilantro dry after you rinse it. This prevents the dressing from being runny.
- Want it a little spicy? Dice up a jalapeno and stir it into the veggie mix.
