As my boys get older, I’m trying to teach them how to feed themselves when I’m not around.

This means more than pouring cereal or heating up frozen food.

I want them to be able to have a hot homemade meal sometimes.

Even if it’s something as easy as a mug meal.

Mug recipes are perfect for solo cooking, beginners, or anyone that doesn’t have a full kitchen available.

With this French toast in a mug recipe, you get a hot, homemade breakfast with just your microwave and a mug and a few staples you probably have on hand.

French toast in a mug is so easy!

To do it, just spray a mug liberally with nonstick spray.

Add everything to the mug except for the cubed bread and whisk it to combine.

Then put the bread cubes into the mug and press them down so the egg mixture covers the bread.

Microwave it for 90 seconds.

Serve and enjoy!

Serving suggestions

Serve this French toast with syrup and your other favorite toppings.

Sometimes I spoon peanut butter or jelly on top or put slices of bananas or other fruit on top.

And my boys like a dollop of whipped cream.

Storing leftovers

Since this is a single serving of French toast, you likely won’t have leftovers.

If you do, cover the mug tightly with plastic wrap and store in the fridge for a day.

Reheat it in the microwave.

Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t have vanilla? It’s fine to skip it if you don’t have it on hand.
  • Make sure you are using a microwave safe mug! It will likely say it is microwave safe on the bottom of the mug.
  • Also, a large mug works better than a small mug for this.

  1. Replaced milk and vanilla with equal amount of French vanilla coffee creamer I have been doing this for years in pancake and waffle batter. Can also your favorite flavor of coffee creamer for a flavor burst
