Halloween is one of those holidays where I love having a little spooky fun.

These witch finger hot dogs are about as fun as it gets.

With just a few simple tricks, ordinary hot dogs turn into creepy looking witch fingers before you can even say, “Hocus Pocus!”

They’re especially fun because they don’t require complicated ingredients or fancy cooking skills, just a little cutting and some ketchup blood.

This makes them perfect for trick or treat night, Halloween parties, or any other haunted happenings all spooky season long.

Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Hot dogs– Use your preferred brand of hot dogs but keep in mind that large hotdogs will show the details better making for a spookier presentation.
  • Ketchup
  • Hot dog buns

How to Make

Making witch finger hot dogs is scarily easy!

Just use a sharp pairing knife to carefully cut a finger nail shape into the top of each hot dog.

Where the finger nail shape is, carefully peel off the outer layer of the cut part of the hot dog to show the nail bed.

Then right under the nail bed area, make three short, shallow cuts to create a finger joint.

In the center of the hot dog under the finger joint, cut shallow lines (1 semi circle facing down, then two straight lines, then another semi circle facing up to finish) to make the knuckle.

Repeat these steps until you’ve cut all the hot dogs to look like fingers.

Boil the hot dogs per the package instructions, then drain them completely.

Once they are boiled and drained, pan fry the hot dogs until they are golden brown on all sides.

Dip a hotdog into ketchup to bloody the finger.

Add it to a bun.

Repeat this for all the hot dogs.

Serve warm and enjoy!

Storing Leftovers

I don’t recommend storing dipped, assembled witch finger hot dogs as they will get soggy in the fridge.

However, if you think you will have extra, set aside any of the undipped but cut and cooked hot dogs.

Either wrap them tightly in foil or plastic wrap or transfer them to an airtight container.

Refrigerate them for up to 4 days.

Reheat them in the microwave before dipping in ketchup and serving on a bun.

Tips and Tricks

  • When cutting out the ‘finger nail’ shape, you can use your own nails for a visual reference on shape.
  • The beauty of these is it doesn’t matter if they are cut perfectly. Witch fingers are gnarled and sort of misshapen so any way you cut them will work for the aesthetic.
  • If the kids are helping, have them use a butter knife or a child-safe nylon or plastic knife for safety.
