Filet-o-fish sliders are perfect for fans of the classic McDonald’s sandwich. These sliders feature breaded fish, homemade tarter sauce and buttery buns and come together with just 10 easy minutes of prep!
We are definitely fast food fans in our house.
One of my McDonald’s favorites?
The Filet-O-Fish sandwich.
My copycat Filet-O-Fish sliders are just as good as the classic fast food and feature all the same flavors.
You’ve got soft fluffy buns, breaded fish burgers, homemade tartar sauce, cheese.
It’s so good and worth skipping the drive through for!
Ingredients
You’ll need:
- Breaded fish burgers– Any brand you like like Highliner, Gordon’s, etc. Some brands may call them fish patties.
- Buns– Slider buns
- Tartar sauce ingredients– Mayo, minced dill pickles, lemon juice, fresh minced dill, dijon mustard, and salt and pepper
- American cheese– To keep it as close to the McDonald’s version don’t substitute.
- Butter– Melted
How to Make
Homemade Filet-o-Fish sliders are so easy to make that it’s actually easier to make them than hit the drive through!
To do it, cook the fish burgers according to the package instructions.
While the fish patties cook, make the tartar sauce by mixing mayo, pickles, dill, lemon juice, mustard and salt and pepper together in a small bowl.
Set it aside.
Then, preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Slice slider buns down the center, keeping them connect.
Place the bottom half of the slider rolls in a baking dish and spread half the tartar sauce on the cut side of buns.
Arrange the cooked fish burgers along the bottom of the buns.
Then spread remaining tartar sauce on the top of the burgers
Top with an even layer of sliced American cheese and then close the sliders by putting the top halves of the buns on the cheese cut side down.
Brush the sliders with the melted butter.
Bake the fish sliders in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and the tops of the buns are golden brown.
Slice into sandwiches and serve warm.
Enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
I don’t recommend planning to have this meal as leftovers.
The sliders and fish will get sort of soggy and sad if stored.
Why is the Filet-o-Fish so good?
Sometimes the simple things are the best things in life.
That’s definitely the case with the Filet-o-Fish.
The sandwich itself is pretty simple and uses ingredients that just taste really yummy when put together.
Is McDonald’s Fish Filet Breaded Or Battered?
McDonald’s classic fillet-o-fish sandwich features a piece of pollock that’s coated in crispy bread crumbs and then fried.
Unlike other fast food chains, their fish fillet is breaded NOT battered.
Tips and Tricks
- Make sure you are using a breaded fish patty or burger for the best results.
- Avoid salmon burgers or patties in favor of white fish like cod, haddock, flounder, etc. Salmon has a different, stronger flavor than the mild fish flavor you want.
- Don’t want to make homemade tartar sauce? While I really recommend it, you can substitute your favorite brand if desired.
